This design is inspired by the story of New Hope and how it got its current name. In 1790 a devastating fire burned down the Hope Flour Mill owned by Benjamin Parry. And within a year, he rebuilt the mill and reopened it under the new name “New Hope Flour Mill”. This inspired the village to change its name from Corylle’s Ferry to New Hope. The fleur-de-lis represents rebirth, optimism and hope and reflects on Benjamin’s vision and leadership within the community. The fleur-de-lis in this design plays on the contrast between the absence of hope versus the fulfillment of hope (the "old hope" versus the "New Hope"); without the one, we wouldn't have the other.
